Wondering where your donations go? So far this winter is looks like this: Parking lot clearing (amounts are estimates) – $2000, fuel for snowmobiles – $400. Snowmobile repair (1) – $350, Snowmobile repair (2) – $1500. Volunteers donate their time to groom and trackset the Rail Trail.. These are expenses which can only paid for through donations, we have no other funding source for our winter grooming. We are also trying to raise funds to build a second station to house our growing amount of equipment.
During the rest of the year, volunteers mow and brush the trail, regularly check the culverts (and unplug as necessary), fill sink holes, assess trail conditions and remove trees as necessary. We paint and repair benches, picnic tables, kiosks, outhouses and much more. As well, we have the expense of repairing machinery and keeping nine parking areas plowed during the winter months to allow everyone to enjoy using the trail year-round.
Most of these expenses are paid for through your donations, but we are having a hard time keeping up. If you enjoy your experience on the Slocan Valley Rail Trail, then please help us by making a donation to show your support. You can do it anytime of the year!
